One of the best forms of motivation, and method of evolving ideas, is to start an idea wall. An idea wall is just a wall in your office or bedroom, where you tape or staple your ideas. The best to go about doing this is to go get a large roll off paper from an office supply store. Then you can cover the wall in paper, multiple layers if you plan to write on it using markers.
After you’ve done that you can write or sketch your ideas out on it. It doesn’t matter if it’s something stupid, because it could be useful later on. My idea wall has various web site ideas, various domain names that I found that were available that I’m thinking about purchasing. It also has logo concepts, charts, graphs, and various quotes or emotional things written on it. I even have various pictures or print outs taped to the wall for motivation as well.
The reason this method works is because it’s on your wall and in your face. The reason I don’t like dry-erase boards is because you have limited space, and you’re tempted to erase anything you don’t fine useful. The problem with that method is that everything is useful, and if its not useful to you it might be useful to a work partner.
Large artists sketch books work pretty well, but they tend to be stashed away and out of sight. You have to get it out and look through it for your ideas, which are just going to hold you back. I do think a mid-sized one, that can fit in a book bag, is useful to have with you when you travel Any ideas you have on the road can be ripped out of the sketch book and attached to your idea wall later.
You don’t want to just think about this as only an idea wall. Treat it as a motivation wall as well. Put pictures of anything up there that motivates you. Some examples are:
I know a couple guys that find motivation thinking about an ex-girlfriend. A lot of guys and girls want to be far better off than their ex. Don’t hide from that feeling when you can use it to your advantage.
